Lake County, Indiana Alert: Police Hunt ‘Blue Mom’ SUV After Deadly Gary Shooting

Gary, IN – Lake County authorities are investigating a deadly shooting in Gary and searching for a suspect who fled in a blue SUV with personalized “Blue Mom” license plates.

The incident occurred Tuesday evening in the 1100 block of N. Warren Street. Police responding around 7:18 p.m. found a 69-year-old man shot in the front yard. Inside the residence, officers discovered a 73-year-old woman who had also been shot.

Emergency crews transported both victims to area hospitals. The woman succumbed to her injuries, while the man remains in critical condition. Police confirmed both were homeowners at the address.

Investigators revealed that the suspect escaped in a blue Nissan Xterra with “Blue Mom” license plates. Witnesses described the suspect as a Black male wearing a coat and ski mask.

The Lake County Homicide Task Force is working alongside the Lake County Crime Lab and Coroner’s Office to identify the suspect and vehicle.
