Lake County, IN – A grave head-on collision in Lake County early Monday morning necessitated a critical rescue operation, with a woman being extricated from her vehicle and flown to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

According to Lake County Sheriff’s Department reports that detailed that the crash, involving three vehicles, occurred at approximately 5:35 AM on the 16100 block of Wicker Avenue.

The incident unfolded when a Hyundai Sonata rear-ended a Ford F150, leading to a loss of control that sent the F150 across the median and into a ditch, where it rolled over. In the midst of this chaos, the Hyundai Sonata also crossed the median and collided head-on with a Ford Fusion. Fire department crews worked tirelessly to free the trapped female driver of the Sonata, who was subsequently airlifted for emergency medical treatment, highlighting the severe nature of her injuries.

The male drivers of the Ford F150 and Ford Fusion were transported to a Crown Point hospital for evaluation. The Lake County Sheriff’s Department Crash Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the crash to determine its cause, as confirmed by Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. The community awaits further updates as the investigation progresses, hoping for the recovery of all involved.
