Crown Point, IN – A school bus from Crown Point was involved in a head-on collision with a Ford SUV early this morning. The crash occurred on the 3300 block of W. 133rd Avenue in unincorporated Crown Point.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, the bus veered off the road and struck a mailbox. The bus then overcorrected, crossing into oncoming traffic. The Ford driver attempted to avoid the crash, but both vehicles collided. The bus driver and a bus monitor were onboard, but there were no students present.
The Ford driver sustained critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. The bus driver was taken for evaluation, while the monitor was released from the scene.
Sheriff’s deputies continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
