Lake County, IN: Argument Between Brothers Ends in Fatal Shooting

Lake County, IN – A family argument between two brothers in Lake County turned deadly on October 22 when a 44-year-old man was shot and killed by his younger brother in their Gary home. The incident took place in the 3800 block of West 10th Avenue following a dispute over a minor car accident.

Gary police arrived to find the older brother with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Methodist Northlake Hospital, where he later died.

According to police, the victim’s 40-year-old brother, Julian Ellis, was arrested at the scene. Witnesses stated the brothers had argued after a vehicle accident involving a tree outside their home. The argument escalated inside the residence, resulting in the shooting.

On October 23, the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office charged Ellis with murder and a firearm enhancement. He remains in custody at Lake County Jail. Investigators from the Lake County Homicide Task Force are assisting with the case.
