Lake County, IL – A Park City man was arrested after authorities allegedly uncovered a significant drug trafficking operation involving fentanyl-laced heroin and crack cocaine.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the Special Investigations Group (SIG), part of a federally funded High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) task force, executed a search warrant Sunday at the home of Marital D. Hayes, 39, on the 700 block of Chestnut Avenue. The operation followed an undercover investigation that began after SIG detectives received information alleging Hayes was actively selling narcotics in the area.

During the June 16 search, detectives reportedly seized more than 40 grams of crack cocaine, nearly 10 grams of heroin mixed with fentanyl, and a loaded firearm. Hayes, a convicted felon, was taken into custody without incident.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved multiple felony charges, including three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of felon in possession of a firearm. Officials said they intend to file a petition to detain Hayes pending trial.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office credited the Gurnee Police Department and Park City Police Department for their assistance during the investigation.

Hayes remains held in the Lake County Jail awaiting a court appearance Tuesday morning. All individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
