Lake County, IL – Three Chicago residents are in custody following a targeted carjacking in Long Grove on May 7, 2025, where a Will County man was assaulted and had his U-Haul truck stolen.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m. Wednesday when the victim, a 36-year-old man from Plainfield, was driving a U-Haul truck northbound on Route 53. He was rear-ended by another vehicle. After the crash, the victim exited the U-Haul to speak with the driver, who was operating a U-Haul truck. At that moment, a minivan arrived, and two additional suspects exited, pepper-spraying the victim and stealing his vehicle.
The suspects, working in coordination, then fled the scene in three vehicles: the stolen U-Haul, a minivan, and another vehicle. The stolen U-Haul, which was loaded with electronics, was soon located with the help of Chicago police near the 1500 block of Pershing Road in Chicago.
The three suspects were arrested and identified as Anthony A. Long, 23, of the 1200 block of West 83rd Street; Brence C. Dancy, 31, of the 6200 block of South Morgan Street; and Christopher R. Lewis, 27, of the 5500 block of South Green Street. All are charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking, a Class X felony. Lewis also faces an aggravated battery charge. They are currently held in Cook County and will be transferred to Lake County for further court proceedings next week.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation, with assistance from Chicago police, and all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
