Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies, with support from multiple police agencies, safely located two high-risk missing individuals in separate incidents over 24 hours, ensuring their recovery despite extreme weather conditions.

The first case involved a 60-year-old man with cognitive disabilities who disappeared from his Wadsworth home late Wednesday night. With temperatures plummeting into the teens, deputies initiated an exhaustive search using drones, K9 teams, and grid planning. According to the sheriff’s office, the man was located early Thursday near the Wadsworth Savanna Forest Preserve by Lake County Forest Preserve Police Officers. He was hospitalized for cold exposure and is expected to recover fully.

In the second incident on Thursday afternoon, an elderly woman with cognitive disabilities went missing in unincorporated Antioch. K9 Duke, part of the Sheriff’s Office K9 team, traced her scent to a vehicle near her residence, where she was found lying in the back seat. Paramedics transported her to a local hospital for treatment for cold exposure.
