Lake Bluff, IL – A man who had been reportedly living in a concealed tent for seven years was taken into custody Thursday after allegedly threatening to kill deputies enforcing his eviction.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Christopher J. Hermanson, 63, had been residing in a hidden 400-square-foot structure on a commercial property along Skokie Highway. Property owners discovered it last summer and sought an eviction order when he refused to leave.
When deputies arrived Thursday morning, Hermanson allegedly threatened to shoot them and kill sheriff’s canines. After a four-hour standoff, he emerged with a hammer and was subdued by a beanbag shotgun.
Hermanson was treated at a hospital and remains in custody as charges are reviewed.
