Lake County, IL Crash: Wadsworth Moped Riders Critically Injured

Wadsworth, IL – Two people are hospitalized with critical, life-threatening injuries following a serious moped crash Saturday afternoon in Wadsworth, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 1:45 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2026, to the intersection of Delany Road and August Zupec Drive for a traffic crash involving injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicates a Honda 150 moped was traveling northbound on Delany Road with a 35-year-old man operating the vehicle and a 32-year-old woman riding as a passenger. Investigators said the operator appeared to slow in preparation for a left turn onto August Zupec Drive.

Authorities said a 24-year-old woman driving a Chevrolet Malibu northbound behind the moped swerved into the southbound lane and struck the moped as it was turning left.

The impact threw both the moped operator and passenger into the roadway. They were transported to an area hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

The driver of the Chevrolet and her 49-year-old female passenger were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team. Investigators have not announced whether citations or charges are expected, and no additional information about the victims has been released.
