Newport Township, IL – A serious traffic crash occurred in Newport Township on Saturday morning, leaving one passenger critically injured.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 10:15 a.m. at Russell Road and Frontage Road near I-94. A Chrysler 300, driven by a 21-year-old Zion man, collided with a Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by a 27-year-old Schaumburg man, as the Mitsubishi attempted a U-turn.
A 24-year-old female passenger in the Mitsubishi sustained major injuries and was transported to St. Catherine’s Medical Center in critical condition. The driver of the Mitsubishi also suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Chrysler was uninjured.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is investigating the incident.
