Ann Arbor, MI – The annual Ann Arbor Art Fair begins Thursday and runs through Saturday, July 18, bringing thousands of visitors to downtown Ann Arbor while prompting road closures, traffic changes and heat safety reminders from city officials.
According to the City of Ann Arbor, street closures associated with the event began at 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, and will remain in effect through the conclusion of the fair on Saturday evening. Although most city infrastructure projects have been paused during the event, motorists should still expect significant traffic congestion and are encouraged to allow extra travel time.
City officials recommend using the official Ann Arbor Art Fair map to locate parking areas, bicycle parking, shuttle stops and other visitor services before arriving downtown.
With hot summer weather expected during the event, officials are also urging fairgoers to take precautions against the heat. Visitors are encouraged to drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing, apply sunscreen and take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas throughout the day. Officials also advise leaving pets at home, noting that hot pavement and high temperatures can quickly become dangerous for animals.
Free water refill stations will be available at multiple downtown locations, including State and South University, Maynard and Liberty, North University near the Diag, North University east of Thayer, Main and Liberty, and Liberty and Division. Misting stations and first aid stations will also be available at Liberty Plaza and Ingalls Mall.
The city is encouraging attendees to sign up for emergency text alerts by texting A2ARTFAIR to 888777. Officials said alerts will only be used to provide important public safety information during the event.
Anyone needing emergency assistance should call 911 and provide the nearest cross streets or vendor booth number, if possible.
