Lake County, IN — As Independence Day approaches, the Lake County Coroner’s Office is emphasizing fireworks safety to prevent injuries and ensure a fun holiday for all. The Fourth of July, celebrated this Thursday, is a time for festivities, but it also brings an increased risk of fireworks-related injuries.

According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, thousands suffer from injuries and burns every year, with young children being particularly vulnerable. To mitigate these risks, residents are encouraged to attend public fireworks displays instead of lighting their own. “Leave it to the pros,” the office advises.

For those who choose to use fireworks, the office provides several key safety tips:

• Maintain Distance: Keep a safe distance from fireworks and never point them at people.
• Supervise Kids: Ensure children watch fireworks but do not handle them.
• Have Water Ready: Always have water or a fire extinguisher on hand.

These precautions are crucial for preventing injuries, as shown in the graphic images shared by the coroner’s office depicting severe hand injuries caused by fireworks. The office stresses the importance of celebrating responsibly and prioritizing safety to ensure an injury-free holiday.
