Zion, IL – A Zion man is facing multiple charges after allegedly trespassing on an active runway at Campbell Airport in Lake County. The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, around 11:55 a.m.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the airport in unincorporated Grayslake after reports of a Toyota racing back and forth on the runway. The driver, later identified as Erik Deanda-Gonzalez, 30, of Zion, parked his vehicle and began entering airport hangars. Deputies found him inside an unoccupied aircraft parked near a taxiway.

When questioned, Deanda-Gonzalez allegedly ran back toward the aircraft and attempted to re-enter. Deputies restrained him and placed him under arrest. Ammunition was found in his vehicle, although no firearm was located.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved several charges against Deanda-Gonzalez, including criminal trespass and resisting a peace officer. He was released with conditions after his court appearance on August 21, 2024. His next court date is set for September 3, 2024.
