Wheaton, IL – The Wheaton City Council is considering a nearly $7 increase in monthly water bills for residents, starting January 2025. This proposed hike is due to rising costs and the need for infrastructure upgrades.

According to the City of Wheaton, the average customer will see an estimated increase of $6.82 per month under the new rates. The increase aims to offset higher expenses related to purchasing Lake Michigan water and maintaining the cityā€™s water system.

The cityā€™s water rates, unchanged since 2015, are supported solely by the fees residents pay for water service. These proposed changes follow the recommendations of the 2024 Wheaton Water Rate Study. The study determined that the adjustments are necessary to ensure a reliable and safe water system.

Wheaton residents can learn more about the proposed rate increase on the city’s website. With the potential impact on thousands of households, the City Council is seeking public feedback before making a final decision.
