Northern Indiana, IN — A cold front brings dangerous swimming conditions to Lake Michigan beaches today, with cooler weather on the way. Swimmers at LaPorte, Porter, and Berrien counties should avoid the water due to life-threatening waves and currents. The National Weather Service has issued a High Swim Risk and Beach Hazards Statement for these areas.

According to the National Weather Service, wave heights could reach 5 to 8 feet today, creating treacherous conditions for beachgoers. Monday will bring slightly improved but still risky conditions, with waves decreasing slightly. Temperatures will also dip, with highs only reaching the lower to mid-70s and lows plunging into the 40s and 50s tonight.

Residents are urged to stay off piers and away from the water, as conditions could be deadly. This cooler, dry weather pattern is expected to persist throughout the week, marking a noticeable shift into the fall season. Those planning outdoor activities should prepare for cooler temperatures and bring appropriate clothing. Stay informed through local weather updates as conditions develop.
