La Porte County, IN – Drivers in northern Indiana should plan for delays starting Tuesday, September 30, as the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced a new closure on State Road 8.

According to INDOT, State Road 8 will close between County Road 875 W and County Road 600 W for a bridge deck overlay project over Bessler Ditch. The closure is expected to last through mid-October. Traffic will be detoured onto U.S. 421, U.S. 30, and State Road 39.

The agency noted this is the second State Road 8 closure this season. The road is already shut down between C.R. 300 E and C.R. 450 E in Porter County for similar work on a bridge over Crooked Creek. That project is expected to wrap up before the La Porte County closure begins.

Drivers who regularly use State Road 8 between La Porte and Porter counties should budget extra travel time and follow posted detour signs. INDOT advises motorists to watch for crews and changing traffic patterns in the work zones.

Residents and commuters are encouraged to check INDOT’s online updates or the Waze app for real-time closure and detour information.
