La Porte County, IN – Drivers in northwest Indiana should prepare for overnight lane closures on I-94 beginning Monday, September 29, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT). The work will affect traffic between U.S. 421 and U.S. 20/35 near Michigan City.
According to INDOT, lane closures will be in place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for two nights as crews switch traffic into the next work zone configuration. Eastbound I-94 will close the first night, while westbound lanes will close the second night. Once complete, two lanes will remain open in each direction, shifted to the right, with the work zone on the left.
The overnight work is part of a larger construction project along this stretch of I-94, which includes concrete patching and a bridge deck overlay at Norris Ditch near County Road 400 North. That project will continue through late December. INDOT also noted that a separate bridge deck replacement is scheduled at Bleck Road in 2026, which will bring additional restrictions.
Officials caution that the schedule is weather dependent and subject to change. Drivers are advised to allow extra time and watch for crews in the work zone.
