La Porte County, IN OWI Arrest: Man Allegedly Crashes Farm Tractor Into Mailboxes

La Porte County, IN – A Westville man is facing misdemeanor operating while intoxicated (OWI) charges after deputies say he crashed a farm tractor into several mailboxes late Wednesday night in La Porte County.

According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, deputies Marvin McCoy and Jon Sikorski responded at approximately 11:10 p.m. to the area of County Road 100 North and Otis Road for a reported crash involving a farm tractor.

Investigators said Daniel J. Krupa, 38, of Westville, allegedly had been operating a 1975 John Deere 4430 tractor while pulling a 2017 New Holland implement. Authorities said the implement sustained significant damage, including a missing wheel and a broken PTO shaft.

According to the sheriff’s office, a witness reported seeing the tractor strike several mailboxes in the area before deputies arrived.

During the investigation, deputies said Krupa exhibited signs of impairment. After standardized field sobriety tests were administered, he was taken into custody and transported to the La Porte County Jail.

Krupa was arrested on preliminary charges of:

  • OWI – Endangerment, Class A misdemeanor
  • OWI, Class C misdemeanor

According to the sheriff’s office, Krupa remains housed at the La Porte County Jail on a $900 cash bond through La Porte County Superior Court III.

The Westville Police Department assisted with the investigation.

The charges are allegations, and Krupa is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
