La Crosse, WI – A narrow band of snow sweeping across southwest Wisconsin early Wednesday is creating pockets of slick travel as it moves east across the region, briefly reducing visibility and leaving some roads partially snow-covered.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, the band of light to occasionally moderate snow is pushing east from the Minnesota border and is expected to clear southwest Wisconsin by around 11 a.m. Wednesday. Most accumulation is falling on grassy surfaces, but brief bursts of heavier snow could allow slick spots to develop on untreated roads and bridges.
Drivers across counties including La Crosse, Vernon, Crawford, and Richland may encounter changing road conditions during the morning commute. Interstate 90 between La Crosse and Tomah, along with U.S. Highway 14 and Highway 35 near the Mississippi River valley, could see wet pavement turning patchy white where snowfall briefly intensifies.
Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down and allow extra stopping distance, especially on elevated surfaces where thin snow can freeze quickly. Visibility may briefly drop during heavier bursts as the band moves through.
Conditions should gradually improve late Wednesday morning as the snow shifts toward central and eastern Wisconsin, though scattered light snow may linger behind the main band.
