La Crosse, Wisconsin – Light snow and persistent cold are expected to impact the La Crosse area through midweek, according to the National Weather Service.
Early Tuesday morning conditions at La Crosse Regional Airport showed temperatures near 5°F, with calm winds and clear skies. Despite the quiet start, weather conditions are expected to deteriorate later today as snow develops across western Wisconsin.
The National Weather Service reports that snow is likely Tuesday, mainly before 5 p.m., with an 80 percent chance of precipitation. While snowfall amounts are expected to remain light—generally less than 1 inch—slick spots may develop on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses during the daytime commute. High temperatures are forecast to reach around 28°F.
Snow chances continue into Wednesday, with snow becoming likely again by late morning and afternoon. Highs Wednesday are expected to reach near 25°F, with mostly cloudy skies and light north winds. Additional snow accumulation is expected to be light but may further impact travel, particularly during the afternoon hours.
The coldest conditions are forecast Wednesday night, when skies partially clear and temperatures fall to around 0°F. Wind chills during this period may drop below zero, increasing the risk of frostbite with prolonged outdoor exposure.
On New Year’s Day, conditions improve with partly sunny skies and highs near 16°F, though temperatures remain well below normal. A gradual warming trend follows late week, with highs reaching the upper teens to near 20°F by Friday and overnight lows near 7°F.
No winter storm warnings or advisories are currently in effect, and spotter activation is not expected at this time. However, the National Weather Service advises continued caution during snow events, even when accumulations are light.
Commuters, students, and outdoor workers should allow extra travel time and dress appropriately for cold and snow-covered conditions through midweek.
