Medford, OR – Drivers across southern Oregon should prepare now as snow and strong winds are set to hit key highways by the Wednesday evening commute, creating hazardous travel through Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect at 5 p.m. Wednesday and lasts until 11 a.m. Thursday. Snow totals of 3 to 6 inches are expected across the Klamath Basin and into northern and eastern Klamath County, with higher terrain in western Lake County seeing the most accumulation. Winds will gust up to 25 mph in lower elevations and as high as 45 mph in exposed areas.

Highway 97 from Modoc Point and stretches of Highway 140 between Bly and Lakeview are likely to see snow-covered pavement and reduced visibility, especially during periods of blowing snow. Communities including Chiloquin, Chemult, and Crescent could face slick roads and limited visibility overnight.

Travelers should slow down, carry winter gear, and check TripCheck or call 511 before heading out, particularly in remote areas where conditions can change quickly.

Snow and wind impacts will continue into the Thursday morning commute before gradually easing late morning, though slick roads may persist. Additional advisories could follow if conditions intensify.
