Ketchikan, AK – A High Wind Warning remains in effect for Prince of Wales Island, Ketchikan Gateway Borough, and Annette Island through midnight Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Juneau.
Forecasters report southeast winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts reaching up to 60 mph, especially across southern parts of the region including Metlakatla and Craig. The strongest winds are expected between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., potentially leading to property damage and scattered power outages.
According to the NWS, travel both by air and sea may be difficult during the height of the wind event. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and vessels to prevent damage or injury.
The Weather Service advises that any damage or hazardous conditions be reported directly through weather.gov/Juneau/StormReports to help emergency crews track impacts across Southeast Alaska.
Winds are expected to gradually subside after midnight, with calmer conditions returning early Thursday morning.
