Paducah, KY – Rain Friday night will give way to dangerously cold conditions this weekend as Arctic air surges into the region. Residents should prepare for single-digit wind chills and potential subzero temperatures through early next week.
According to the National Weather Service, Friday will see highs in the mid-50s before rain begins late in the evening. Rain will taper off early Saturday, with temperatures rapidly dropping into the teens overnight. By Sunday morning, wind chills will dip below zero, creating hazardous conditions for outdoor activities.
A prolonged Arctic cold front will dominate the area from Sunday through Wednesday, bringing high temperatures only in the 20s and lows in the single digits. The coldest days are expected to be Monday and Tuesday, with wind chill values reaching dangerous subzero levels. Residents are urged to check on vulnerable populations and prepare for several nights of freezing conditions.
Drivers along I-24 and other major roadways should remain cautious as freezing conditions could impact travel. Local authorities encourage securing outdoor pipes, preparing vehicles for cold starts, and using caution with space heaters to prevent fire risks.
Looking ahead, Paducah can expect a gradual warmup starting Wednesday, with daytime highs returning to the 30s and 40s. Despite this, Sunday through Tuesday’s bitter cold should be taken seriously. Residents are encouraged to follow updates from the National Weather Service and ensure adequate preparations for the Arctic blast.
