Jackson, Kentucky – Storms could rapidly intensify across eastern Kentucky after 6 p.m. Sunday, with areas north of I-64 facing the highest risk for hail and damaging wind gusts through the overnight hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a strong cold front will push in from the northwest this evening, triggering thunderstorms near the Ohio River before they organize into a line after dark. That line is expected to move south-southeast across the state between late evening and early Monday morning.
Communities including Morehead, Ashland, and areas near Maysville sit in a slight risk zone, where storms may produce large hail and wind gusts strong enough to knock down trees and power lines. Farther south, including Jackson, London, and Somerset, storms may weaken slightly but can still deliver gusty winds and pockets of hail.
Drivers along I-64 and the Mountain Parkway could encounter sudden heavy rain and reduced visibility during peak evening travel hours. Residents should secure outdoor items, charge devices ahead of potential outages, and remain indoors as storms approach.
Storms are expected to continue through early Monday morning, and additional warnings may be issued as the line develops and moves across the region.
