Indianapolis, Indiana – A fast-moving line of severe storms could disrupt travel across central Indiana between 7 p.m. and midnight Sunday, with hail up to 2 inches posing an immediate threat to drivers and property along the I-70 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, storms are expected to develop north of I-70 late Sunday evening before pushing southeast into the overnight hours. The primary threats include large hail and damaging wind gusts, with the strongest cells capable of producing hail as large as 2 inches in diameter.

The highest impact zone stretches from Lafayette through Indianapolis and into Richmond, with elevated risk extending south toward Bloomington, Seymour, and areas near Louisville. Major routes including I-65, I-69, and I-70 could see rapid deterioration in driving conditions as storms intensify.

Hail of this size can fall at speeds over 70 mph, increasing the risk of vehicle damage and shattered glass. Residents should move cars into garages, avoid travel during peak storm timing, and stay indoors away from windows as storms pass.

Utility crews may respond to scattered outages if strong winds accompany the storms, especially in areas south of I-70 where storm intensity may peak.

The severe weather threat continues into the early overnight hours, and additional warnings may be issued quickly as the storm line develops and tracks southeast.
