Boone County, KY – A tornado touched down briefly in Boone County on March 19, causing damage to buildings and vehicles near Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington, OH, the EF1 tornado produced peak winds of 105 mph and traveled 3.15 miles, touching down at 10:54 p.m. EDT. The storm lasted just two minutes before lifting at 10:56 p.m. EDT.
The tornado began west of KY-237, where it damaged an industrial building by partially removing its roof. As it moved northeast, the storm uprooted multiple trees before striking the airport area. Extensive wall and roof damage were reported at another industrial building near the airport. Additionally, a parked Boeing 747 was shifted five feet by the strong winds. About a dozen cars sustained damage from flying debris in a nearby parking garage.
No injuries or fatalities were reported. The NWS noted that additional tree and HVAC system damage occurred on the airport’s northeast side. The survey results remain preliminary pending further review.
Emergency responders, including the Boone County Emergency Management Agency and Hebron Fire Department, assisted in assessing damage.
