West Chicago, IL – A DeKalb man has been convicted in DuPage County for shooting a man in the face while the victim was on a dinner break from work in 2021.
A jury found Ahmad Steele, 38, guilty of Attempted Murder and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm after deliberating for approximately two hours following a three-day trial. The verdict was announced by DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin.
According to prosecutors, the shooting occurred on January 28, 2021, at approximately 7:31 p.m. outside Mapei Corporation on Industrial Drive in West Chicago. Steele parked his Chevrolet Blazer near the victim, exited the vehicle with a shotgun, and shot the man in the face before fleeing the scene.
The victim, who survived after undergoing five reconstructive surgeries, was found by police suffering from a severe facial gunshot wound. Steele was later arrested on February 6, 2021, in Naperville after police stopped his vehicle.
Steele remains in custody and faces 31 years to life in prison. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 29, 2025.
