Bowling Green, Ky. – Strong storms could bring damaging winds, large hail, and brief tornadoes to south-central Kentucky this afternoon as a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains active until 5 p.m. CDT.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, 25 counties—including Warren, Christian, and Barren—are under watch as a potent line of storms moves across western and southern Kentucky. The watch, issued at 10 a.m. Friday, includes high-risk zones along I-65 and the Cumberland Parkway, where travel may be hazardous due to sudden downpours and reduced visibility.

Communities such as Bowling Green, Hopkinsville, and Glasgow could see storms intensify through early afternoon, with gusts exceeding 60 mph and quarter-size hail reported in past similar systems. Schools and outdoor activities may be disrupted; residents are urged to secure loose objects and monitor emergency alerts.

This watch marks one of the first widespread severe weather alerts of May for Kentucky, kicking off what could be an active storm season. Power outages and minor structural damage are possible in the hardest-hit areas.

Storm threats are expected to diminish after 5 p.m., but additional watches may be issued depending on the system’s speed and intensity.
