Louisville, Kentucky – Strong thunderstorms are expected to move across Kentucky tonight, bringing a risk of small hail, gusty winds, and even a brief, weak tornado east of I-65, before the weather turns much calmer for the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, scattered storms will persist through late Friday evening. Areas east of I-65—including Shelbyville, Frankfort, and Richmond—could see isolated severe cells, with the potential for damaging wind gusts, minor hail, and a quick spin-up tornado. Temperatures will remain in the 50s overnight.
Drivers on I-64 and I-75 should be prepared for sudden downpours and reduced visibility, especially through midnight. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and stay indoors during the storms. Power outages and tree limb damage may be possible in the hardest-hit spots.
By Saturday morning, showers will taper off with gradual clearing and highs reaching the upper 60s to low 70s across Louisville, Lexington, and Bowling Green. Sunshine continues into Sunday, with temperatures in the low 70s and comfortable, dry conditions—perfect for outdoor plans.
Storm risks will end by Saturday morning, but additional updates may be issued if conditions change overnight.
