Paducah, KY – Triple-digit heat indices are expected across Kentucky, Missouri, and southern Illinois starting Sunday. Forecasts indicate hot and humid conditions with highs mainly in the 90s and heat indices reaching 100-105 degrees over much of the region. Scattered thunderstorms could offer brief relief in a few locations.

According to the US National Weather Service in Paducah, even warmer conditions are anticipated early next week. On Tuesday, heat indices are projected to soar between 103-109 degrees, making it the hottest day of the week. Residents are advised to take precautions if venturing outdoors due to the extreme heat.

Numerous showers and storms are expected Tuesday night into Wednesday as a cold front passes through the area. This will provide a slight decrease in temperature and humidity by Thursday, though the heat is expected to return by next weekend.

Local authorities urge residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and check on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and those with preexisting health conditions. Emergency cooling centers will be available in some areas to help residents cope with the extreme weather.
