Kentucky Juvenile Arrested in Indiana on Attempted Murder Charges After Rainbow Lake Shooting

Derby, IN – A juvenile male from Kentucky was arrested for attempted murder following a shooting at Rainbow Lake in Derby, Indiana. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on July 27, 2024, during a dispute between two groups of juveniles.

According to the Perry County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of shots fired at the Rainbow Lake Recreation Area in the Hoosier National Forest. Two individuals suffered suspected gunshot injuries, and a third was injured by broken glass. The suspects were apprehended as they attempted to flee the scene in two vehicles.

The juvenile was detained and later transported to a juvenile facility. The Indiana State Police, along with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office, Tell City Police Department, Cannelton Police Department, and the US Forest Service, are investigating the incident. The Perry County Prosecutor was also present at the scene.

The juvenile faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, aggravated battery, battery with a deadly weapon, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, criminal recklessness, pointing a firearm, dealing marijuana, and possession of marijuana. The identities of the juveniles involved have not been released.
