Louisville, KY – Showers and thunderstorms will begin moving into the Kentucky-Indiana-Ohio border region after midnight Thursday, raising the risk for disrupted travel during the early Friday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, the first round of scattered showers may develop late Wednesday night into early Thursday, but the more impactful round arrives late Thursday night into Friday morning. Storms are expected to organize between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m., especially across northern Kentucky and southern Indiana, including areas near Louisville, Covington, and Madison.

Temperatures will surge into the low-to-mid 80s Thursday afternoon—well above normal—helping fuel instability ahead of an approaching cold front. This setup places much of the Ohio River corridor, including I-71, I-75, and I-64, under a marginal to slight risk for stronger storms.

Drivers should prepare for reduced visibility and ponding water on roadways during the pre-dawn hours Friday. Secure outdoor items Thursday evening and keep mobile alerts enabled overnight in case warnings are issued while most people are asleep.

Conditions improve later Friday as the cold front pushes through, dropping highs back into the 60s. More updates are expected as storm timing becomes more precise.
