Paducah, KY – Temperatures will surge toward record levels by Thursday afternoon, with highs nearing 89°F before storms move in overnight and rapidly change conditions across western Kentucky.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, highs will climb from the mid-70s Wednesday into the 83°F to 89°F range Thursday between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., running more than 20 degrees above normal. A cold front will then push through Thursday night into early Friday, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms.

The timing for storms centers between 9 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday, with the potential for stronger storms developing as the front moves across the region. Communities along I-24 and U.S. 60, including Paducah, Mayfield, and Murray, could see brief heavy rain and gusty winds that may impact overnight travel.

By Friday afternoon, temperatures will drop sharply into the 50s, a nearly 30-degree swing from Thursday’s peak. Saturday looks calmer with highs in the mid-to-upper 50s under mostly sunny skies.

Residents should secure outdoor items ahead of Thursday night and remain weather-aware during overnight hours when storms arrive. Additional alerts may be issued as the front approaches.
