Cincinnati, Ohio – Roads across the Kentucky-Indiana-Ohio tri-state could flood within hours as repeated thunderstorms move over the Ohio River Valley during the afternoon and evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service, a marginal risk of flash flooding remains in effect through Wednesday night for northern Kentucky, southeast Indiana and southwest Ohio. Storms may produce 1 to 2 inches of rainfall in a short window, especially where downpours track repeatedly over the same neighborhoods.

Communities along the Ohio River, including Cincinnati, Covington, Newport and Lawrenceburg, face the highest risk for rapid water buildup. Urban corridors near Interstates 71, 75 and 275 are prone to ponding during intense rainfall, while smaller creeks and tributaries could rise quickly. Low-lying streets and underpasses in downtown Cincinnati and riverfront areas are particularly vulnerable if rainfall rates exceed drainage capacity.

Drivers should avoid flooded roadways, slow down during heavy rain and never attempt to cross barricades. Even a few inches of moving water can stall or sweep away vehicles.

Additional advisories may be issued if storms continue redeveloping across the Kentucky-Indiana-Ohio border region through Wednesday night.
