Kentucky – Dry air and gusty winds are already sweeping across western parts of the state this morning, raising fire concerns and setting up a sharp weather shift by the end of the week.

According to the National Weather Service, southwest winds will gust between 20 and 25 mph through late afternoon, while humidity drops to near 25–35 percent across western Kentucky. That combination creates an elevated fire danger, especially near Paducah, Metropolis, and along rural stretches off I-24 and US-60. Outdoor burning should be avoided immediately.

Skies stay clear and warm today, with highs reaching 81°F in Paducah. Roads remain dry, but loose debris and dust may briefly reduce visibility on open highways. Keep both hands on the wheel, especially on east-west routes.

Conditions stay quiet into Thursday with sunshine and highs near 83°F. However, moisture begins to surge back by early Friday. Rain chances climb to 50% during the day, then spike to 70% Friday night. Showers and thunderstorms could produce bursts of heavy rain and lightning, slowing travel along I-24, US-45, and the Ohio River crossings.

Meteorologists are also tracking a broader system that may bring isolated severe storms across the region late Friday into Saturday. While the risk remains low for now, damaging wind gusts and brief downpours are possible. Stay weather-aware as updates refine timing.

Five Day Outlook for Paducah, Kentucky:

Thursday: Sunny, high 83°F
Friday: Showers and storms likely late, high 78°F
