Owensboro, KY – A flood warning remains in effect for the Ohio River at Owensboro, where water levels are expected to rise above moderate flood stage through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, the Ohio River is forecast to crest at 44.3 feet on Saturday morning, following heavy rainfall across the region last week. As of Thursday evening, the river had already reached 43.7 feet. Floodwaters are expected to remain elevated until Tuesday evening, when levels should drop below the flood stage of 40 feet.

At 44 feet, parts of Smothers Park in downtown Owensboro may experience flooding. Residents are urged to take precautions, especially when traveling near flooded roads. Officials warn that most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles and advise drivers to turn around rather than attempt to cross submerged areas.

The public is encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency management agencies. Additional flood safety information is available at www.weather.gov.
