Abbeville, GA – The National Weather Service has extended a flood warning for the Ocmulgee River at Abbeville, with minor flooding expected to persist until Monday afternoon.
According to the NWS Peachtree City office, the river reached 12.7 feet as of 7:45 p.m. Thursday and is forecast to crest at 12.8 feet by early Friday afternoon. Flood stage is 12 feet, and water levels are expected to drop below that threshold by Monday morning.
Flooding has already impacted low-lying areas near the river, including a park and parking lot at the Abbeville boat ramp. Residents in Wilcox, Telfair, and Dodge counties should remain cautious and avoid flooded roads. The NWS advises drivers to “Turn around, don’t drown,” as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
