Bowling Green, KY – A flood warning has been extended for several rivers in Kentucky, particularly the Green River near Munfordville, Woodbury, and the Barren River at Bowling Green, according to the National Weather Service.
Heavy rainfall over the past week has caused water levels to rise, with rivers cresting beyond their normal levels. The flood warning for the Barren River in Bowling Green, affecting Warren County, is in place until Wednesday morning. Minor flooding is ongoing and expected to continue, especially in areas such as Thomas Landing and Weldon Peete Park. At higher levels, roads and parks, including Boat Landing Road, are submerged.
In addition, the Green River near Munfordville, which impacts Hart County, and the Green River at Woodbury in Butler and Warren Counties remain under flood warnings until further notice. The Green River at Rochester has experienced major flooding, with several roads closed, including KY 70 and KY 1117.
Authorities urge the public to avoid driving through flooded areas and adhere to road barricades. “Turn around, don’t drown” is the critical safety reminder, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
