Paducah, KY – Bitter cold continues to grip much of Kentucky as temperatures dip into the single digits overnight. The National Weather Service has extended its Cold Weather Advisory through early Wednesday morning, warning of dangerous wind chills along the I-24 corridor and surrounding areas. Residents are urged to protect themselves, pets, and property from extreme conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, wind chill values are expected to fall to near or below zero tonight. These conditions increase the risk of frostbite and hypothermia, especially for those outdoors or without proper heating. Temperatures will begin to climb on Wednesday, but highs will remain below freezing for most areas until later in the week.
Tonight’s forecast predicts a low of 8°F under mostly clear skies. By Wednesday, temperatures are expected to reach 34°F with gradual clearing. A warming trend is set to continue through Saturday, bringing highs of 43–49°F by the weekend. However, the region will experience colder-than-average temperatures until then.
Residents along major roadways like I-24 and U.S. Route 60 are encouraged to check on vulnerable neighbors and ensure outdoor animals have adequate shelter. Local officials stress the importance of keeping heating systems functional and monitoring pipes for potential freezing.
The week ahead offers a gradual warm-up: Thursday’s high reaches 39°F, and Friday will remain sunny with highs near 36°F. By Saturday, temperatures will approach 50°F, offering relief from the cold.
