La Salle, Illinois – Reckless driving on Illinois Route 351 prompted a police response and arrest Friday afternoon, briefly disrupting traffic near a busy intersection.

According to the La Salle Police Department, an on-duty officer observed a silver 2008 Infiniti G35 allegedly performing dangerous maneuvers around 2:33 p.m. near the intersection of Illinois 351 and North 2959th Road. Police said the driver was allegedly spinning donuts in the roadway, creating a hazard to other motorists and the public.

When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver allegedly fled the area, entering the Vermillion Vue subdivision and leading police on a brief pursuit. The vehicle later stopped, and the driver was taken into custody without further incident, police said.

Authorities identified the driver as Tyler Thrush, 23, of Oglesby. He now faces multiple charges, including reckless driving, improper lane usage, squealing or screeching tires, fleeing or attempting to elude police, and street racing or stop movement violations. All charges are allegations.

La Salle Police Chief Jason Stubler emphasized the seriousness of the incident, stating that reckless driving places lives at risk, including those of innocent motorists and responding officers. He said the department will take swift and decisive action to hold offenders accountable.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Police are reminding drivers that reckless driving is illegal and extremely dangerous. Residents who may have witnessed the incident or observed unsafe driving along Illinois Route 351 on Thursday are encouraged to contact the La Salle Police Department’s non-emergency line at 815-223-2131, or call 911 in an emergency.

The incident occurred along a corridor frequently used by commuters traveling between La Salle and surrounding communities.
