Kennebec County, ME – Deputies confirmed late Wednesday that a suspect has been identified and arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a bicyclist seriously injured in West Gardiner.
According to the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, when deputies and Gardiner Fire/Rescue responded to a motor vehicle crash on High Street. Investigators determined a bicyclist was struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene despite sustaining significant damage.
The victim suffered serious injuries and was initially taken to Maine General Medical Center in Augusta before being transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland for further treatment.
Deputies reported recovering both physical and digital evidence at the scene, which helped lead to the identification of the suspect. The sheriff’s office confirmed Wednesday evening that the individual involved has now been taken into custody.
Authorities initially encouraged the driver to come forward and also requested help from the public, offering both a phone line and an anonymous tip system. With the arrest made, deputies continue to review evidence as the case moves forward.
