Dodge City, KS – A powerful winter storm continues to blanket parts of Kansas with heavy snow, creating hazardous conditions. By Thursday evening, 3 to 4 inches of snow had already fallen in Barber, Comanche, and Pratt counties.

According to the National Weather Service, the region could see up to two additional inches of snow before the storm ends early Friday. The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 a.m. Friday, impacting evening and early morning travel across the area.

Slippery roads and reduced visibility are making travel risky. Officials are urging drivers to proceed cautiously or avoid travel entirely, especially during peak storm conditions. Residents planning to commute or run errands should allow extra time and prepare for delays.

Emergency preparedness officials recommend keeping flashlights, food, and water in vehicles for those needing to travel during the storm. Road conditions can be checked by dialing 511 for the latest updates.

The storm, which began Thursday afternoon, is expected to move eastward by Friday morning. While snow accumulation will taper off, icy conditions could linger through the weekend, particularly on secondary roads and untreated surfaces.

Local authorities advise residents to monitor weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel until the storm subsides. Snowplows are working to clear primary roads, but rural areas may experience delays.

As temperatures remain below freezing, additional ice development is possible. Residents should remain vigilant and prepared for disruptions in daily routines.
