Wichita, KS – A surge of frigid air is sweeping across Kansas tonight, bringing wind chills as low as -4°F in Wichita and colder temperatures in surrounding regions. Residents should bundle up and prepare for dangerous conditions overnight.

According to the National Weather Service, a cold front will usher in northwest winds up to 15 mph, dropping temperatures to a low of 9°F in Wichita. Coupled with wind speeds, tonight’s wind chills will feel closer to 4°F in the city and as low as -4°F in nearby areas like Topeka. Patchy fog may reduce visibility earlier in the evening, particularly along I-35 and local roads.

Monday morning will remain brisk, with highs reaching only 28°F under sunny skies. Drivers heading to work or school should dress in layers and allow extra time for their commute. The wind will calm by Monday afternoon, offering some relief, but nighttime lows will plummet again to 15°F.

A gradual warm-up is expected midweek, with highs reaching the low 40s by Thursday and sunny skies dominating the forecast. However, residents are urged to remain cautious during tonight’s bitter cold and to limit time outdoors.
