Wichita, Kan. – Much of central, south-central and southeast Kansas will enjoy a mostly dry stretch through midweek before temperatures climb into the mid-90s by the end of the workweek, with only limited chances for thunderstorms returning Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, seasonable temperatures will dominate through Wednesday before a gradual warming trend develops Thursday and Friday. Most locations are expected to remain dry through the period, although isolated showers and thunderstorms may develop Wednesday, primarily across southeast Kansas.

Monday will bring highs between 87 and 91 degrees under partly to mostly sunny skies, followed by 88 to 92 degrees Tuesday with abundant sunshine. By Wednesday, highs will reach 90 to 93 degrees, with the best opportunity for isolated afternoon thunderstorms centered over communities such as Coffeyville, Independence, Parsons and surrounding areas. Central Kansas, including Wichita, Hutchinson, Salina and Newton, is expected to remain largely dry.

The warming trend becomes more noticeable late in the week as highs climb into the 92 to 95 degree range Thursday and 93 to 96 degrees Friday. Breezy conditions are also expected Friday, which could increase fire weather concerns where vegetation has dried between rainfall events.

Residents should stay hydrated as temperatures rise later this week and remain aware of changing weather conditions if traveling across southeast Kansas on Wednesday. The National Weather Service expects the overall pattern to remain favorable for dry weather across most of the state, with only isolated storm activity interrupting an otherwise warm and sunny week.
