Wichita, KS – A cold front is currently moving across Kansas, providing some relief from the recent heatwave. Today’s highs will range from the low 90s in central areas like Salina and Hutchinson to near 100 in southern regions such as Harper and Coffeyville.
According to the US National Weather Service in Wichita, temperatures will rise again into the 90s to near 100 across central and south-central Kansas on Wednesday. Wichita is expected to reach a high of 95 today and 98 on Wednesday. Emporia and Hutchinson will see similar highs of around 90 and 94, respectively. Russell will experience slightly cooler conditions with a high of 91 today and 85 on Wednesday.
The weather service also predicts that a few storms may develop across central Kansas tomorrow night, with a 30% chance of precipitation. Nighttime lows will vary between 67 and 73 degrees, offering some relief from the daytime heat.
Thursday will continue the trend of hot temperatures, especially in southern Kansas, with highs ranging from 87 to 99 degrees. Winfield and Coffeyville are expected to be the warmest areas, reaching highs in the upper 90s.
Looking ahead, temperatures will moderate slightly towards the weekend, with Wichita seeing highs in the low 80s by Friday and Saturday. Despite the brief respite brought by today’s cold front, the region should prepare for another surge in temperatures midweek.
