Wichita, KS – Colder weather will settle across Wichita and much of southeast Kansas on Thursday before a warming trend returns this weekend. Residents should prepare for chilly conditions Friday and overnight lows dipping well below freezing before more seasonal temperatures arrive by Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service, Thursday will bring sunny skies with highs reaching near 57 degrees. However, temperatures will sharply decline overnight, hitting a low of 22 degrees. Friday’s highs will struggle to climb past the upper 30s, with gusty north winds making it feel even colder during the day.
By Saturday, conditions improve as sunny skies dominate and highs rebound to the mid-40s. Sunday will offer a more comfortable day, with highs reaching into the lower 50s under mostly clear skies. Rain chances will emerge Monday night into Tuesday as warmer-than-average conditions push back into the area. Highs early next week could climb to 57-60 degrees, signaling a milder outlook for Christmas celebrations in Kansas.
Drivers should exercise caution during early Friday morning commutes as temperatures in the 20s could lead to slick patches on elevated roads or bridges. Winds will taper off by the weekend, improving travel conditions across the region.
Looking ahead, southeast Kansas residents can expect a mix of sunshine and occasional rain into midweek. Outdoor plans this weekend are best scheduled for Saturday and Sunday while conditions remain dry and sunny.
