Wichita, Kansas – Temperatures will surge into the 90s across central and south-central Kansas by Wednesday and Thursday, setting up a sharp cooldown that will arrive with a cold front late Thursday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, highs will climb from the low to mid-70s today into the upper 80s and low 90s Wednesday, peaking between 87°F and 94°F Thursday. Breezy conditions will develop Thursday afternoon ahead of the front, increasing fire danger and creating dry, warm conditions across the region.
An isolated chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after 8 p.m. Thursday as the cold front moves through, with limited coverage expected but enough to produce brief downpours and gusty winds in spots. Cities including Wichita, Hutchinson, and El Dorado may see quick-hitting storms overnight.
Behind the front, temperatures will drop sharply into the mid-50s to around 60°F Friday, marking a 30-degree swing from Thursday’s highs. Winds will remain breezy out of the north, reinforcing the cooler air into the start of the weekend.
Residents should prepare for rapid changes late Thursday, secure loose outdoor items ahead of gusty winds, and stay alert for isolated storms overnight. Additional updates may be issued as the front approaches.
