Wichita, Kansas – Scattered thunderstorms are back in the Wichita area Tuesday, kicking off a wet week that could bring up to 1.5 inches of rain and daily travel disruptions through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, showers and isolated storms will develop throughout Tuesday with highs ranging from 66 to 76 degrees. The heaviest rainfall is expected across south-central Kansas, including Winfield, Hutchinson, and Chanute, where totals may reach 1.5 inches. Rain will continue intermittently into Wednesday and Thursday, with cooler highs in the mid-60s.

Drivers along I-35 and U.S. Route 400 should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility, especially during afternoon commutes. While widespread flooding isn’t expected, low-lying areas in Harper and Cowley counties may experience ponding.

Residents are urged to check local drainage, secure outdoor items, and have weather alerts enabled. Cooler air following the storms may lower temperatures to the 60s through midweek, limiting thunderstorm strength but maintaining steady rain.

Rain chances diminish by Thursday afternoon, but lingering showers may persist into the evening. Additional advisories are possible if storm activity intensifies.
