Springfield, Missouri – Storms are making a comeback across southwest Missouri, with rain and thunder chances climbing as high as 80% through Friday, potentially disrupting commutes and outdoor plans across the Ozarks.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, scattered showers and thunderstorms will begin late Tuesday and persist through the end of the workweek. Rainfall won’t be constant, but multiple rounds of storms are likely, especially on Wednesday and Thursday. Highs will hover between the upper 60s and mid-70s, with overnight lows dipping into the 40s and 50s.

Cities like Springfield, Branson, and Rolla may see the heaviest rainfall Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. While severe weather is not expected, localized downpours could create slick roads and brief travel delays. Residents are encouraged to monitor changing conditions and avoid flooded low-water crossings.

Though drier air is forecast to return by Saturday, scattered storms remain possible until late Friday. Outdoor plans this week should remain flexible, and drivers are advised to keep headlights on during downpours and allow extra stopping distance.

Rain chances drop sharply heading into the weekend, but additional advisories may be issued if storm systems linger longer than expected.
