Wichita, Kansas – Lingering flood concerns and a parade of thunderstorms continue to challenge parts of central and southern Kansas, with Wichita at the heart of the action. A Flood Warning remains in effect for Sedgwick County and surrounding areas through 8 a.m. Thursday, but impacts could last well into the weekend as soaked ground struggles to drain.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, low-lying roads, creeks, and underpasses remain vulnerable, especially along Interstate 35 between mile markers 100 and 116. Two-day rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches have saturated the region. Local agencies urge residents to avoid flooded streets, even if water appears shallow. “Turn around, don’t drown,” remains the key message.

Looking ahead to Friday, June 6, scattered storms will develop before 7 a.m., bringing breezy north winds and highs in the upper 70s. Showers should taper off by afternoon, offering a brief break.

Saturday and Sunday bring slim but stubborn storm chances—20% both days—especially during the early afternoon hours. Despite that, both days should see highs in the mid-80s under partly sunny skies. Monday marks a return to dry, stable weather.

The biggest safety takeaway? Continue monitoring for standing water, particularly in areas where drains are clogged or storm runoff collects. Wichita residents should avoid unnecessary travel until roadways are cleared.

⚠️ Warnings remain in effect through Thursday morning. More rainfall is possible Saturday into Sunday.
